NEW YORK, Aug. 31
-- RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH - News) today announced it is expanding its rollout of HD digital radio receivers to include approximately 250 of the nearly 350 RadioShack stores open in the greater New York metropolitan area.

RadioShack announced in May 2006 it was becoming the first major national retail chain to support the HD digital radio rollout with a staggered launch of HD digital radio receivers across the country. The first phase included all RadioShack stores in Dallas/Fort Worth and less than 20 pilot stores in such markets as New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Washington, D.C. This latest expansion including nearly 250 New York metro RadioShack stores coincides with what the company says is growing customer demand for HD digital radio receivers mirroring the growth of HD digital content on local New York radio stations.

"The best way to interest customers in HD digital radio is to allow them to listen to it in stores, see the type of information that is shown on the receiver's display device, and allow them to talk to knowledgeable, helpful sales associates who can actually answer their questions," said Wes Lowzinski, RadioShack's senior vice president-general merchandise manager. "That type of interactive engagement has RadioShack stamped all over it. That's what we do better than anyone else - demonstrate, engage and explain. With HD digital radio, seeing - and hearing - is believing, and we're excited to bring this new technology to so many stores in such a radio-friendly market as New York."

HD digital radio technology allows local radio broadcasters to transmit a high-quality digital signal that can be received using a special HD digital radio receiver. With a HD digital radio receiver from RadioShack, customers have access to crystal-clear, static-free reception and subscription-free local programming they've previously not been able to hear through standard radio receivers.

"RadioShack is quickly becoming a leading retail force in HD Radio as they rollout their New York stores," said Peter Ferrara, HD Digital Alliance President and CEO. "The HD Digital Radio Alliance will be supporting their efforts with an extensive on-air radio campaign to ensure that New Yorkers know there are now over 250 locations to discover HD Radio."

Listeners in the New York metro market currently can tune in to almost 20 different radio stations transmitting dozens of HD signals representing all genres of talk and music programming. HD digital radio receivers deliver FM radio with near-CD quality sound minus the static, pops, crackles, or fades they've come to expect from terrestrial radio and AM radio reception that's comparable to today's traditional FM transmissions. Another benefit is the reception of additional information on the display device, including such things as song titles, artist information, traffic alerts, stocks and sports scores.

RadioShack is currently offering New York metro customers the desktop Boston Acoustics Recepter HD digital radio in stores and online for $299.99, with plans to offer additional models in the months ahead. Customers will be exposed to in-store, online and point-of-purchase educational support backed with customized advertising running on all HD Digital Radio Alliance-member stations explaining how RadioShack is the destination for their HD radio needs. According to the HD Digital Radio Alliance, to date more than 3,000 U.S. radio stations have committed to broadcasting in the HD format.
